Fullbay: The Company, The Mission, The Values
The crew at Fullbay has a mission.
Most of you know that we’re dedicated to making life easier for those who work in repair shops. But there’s more to it: when technicians, service and parts managers, and shop owners have a better work-life balance, they tend to do better work overall. That means heavy-duty vehicles are maintained and repaired to a higher standard—and overall, they’re safer to operate and be around.
That’s what our passion boils down to: safety.
While Fullbay is a great addition to any heavy-duty shop or fleet, a lot of our customers focus on big rigs. Those giant tractor-trailers share the road with everyone—every time you get into your car and pull onto the freeway, you’re running right alongside these titans. They drive next to your loved ones. Oh, yeah, and they basically keep our supply chain functioning.
They’re also huge, and as we’ve unfortunately seen in the news, they can cause a lot of damage if they’re not properly maintained.
Last year, our co-founder Jacob Findlay elaborated on this, writing about the disheartening number of deaths associated with big rig crashes. Some 4,000 people die per year in crashes involving large trucks; that works out to 11 deaths per day.
The numbers chilled us.
As we talked about what we wanted to accomplish in 2022, the usual things came up: grow the company, implement useful features—but always we came back to those 11 deaths, and how we could reduce them. Improper maintenance has always been a looming problem behind truck crashes. We’re in a unique position to reduce those deaths by improving the maintenance trucks receive.
So when people ask, “What does Fullbay do?” or “What is Fullbay for?” we could rattle on about work-life balance and eliminating the need for paper records. Or we could say, “We help make the roads safer for everyone.”
How do we do that? Well, it helps to have the right kind of employees and the right kind of attitude. Over the last few years, we’ve figured out what to look for in potential applicants, and how to help them do their best work once they’re here.
We boiled it down to four values and have gradually built our workplace around those four values. They are:
- Promote balance. We don’t want our customers spending their lives in the shop, and we don’t want our employees spending their lives in the office. Work to live, don’t live to work!
- Build quality tools. If we don’t use something ourselves, we won’t put it out there for our customers. In our view, a tool that’s made right will help them accomplish more with less work.
- Be high performing. It’s one thing to have a great creative idea…but it’s totally another to make that idea happen! The company’s entire purpose is to make life better for those who work in repair shops, and when we think of something, we go all-out to make it happen.
- Run into the fire. If you don’t try something, you’ll never know if it works, right? Even if an idea doesn’t pan out, we’ll learn something from it, and be armed with the knowledge we need to do a better job next time.
We expect these things of ourselves and our team—full-time, part-time, contractors, and everything in between—because when those four values work together, you get some pretty awesome results. We think you’ll agree that the diesel industry, which has an impact on every part of the supply chain and economy, deserves the best.
So, let us kick off this new year by offering a toast to everyone involved in the diesel world. We work hard for you so you don’t have to work as hard!
